The 'plugged-in' world
Ishita Laha

Living in this self-absorbed world
Of music and private thoughts
What appears more bizarre-
Talking, arguing, debating in own heads
Masking the feelings under the veil of technology

One consciously tries to avoid any eye-contact
Lest a need to talk shall arise
An ear-plug in such scenario-comes handy
To blank out the noise called 'talk'
Marking conversation- a dying art!

This restriction on easy exchange
Cripples our sensation to expression
Leaves little room for reaction
Compromises with our ability to self-reflect
Silently erodes away off one's panache.

One of the biggest casualties of this connected world
The art of communication
The bedrock of development
Conversation-a word endangered
In the lexicon of GenNext.

The silence of this world is deafening
When communication only means texting and tweeting
Engulfing us in an impersonal virtual space
Where the patience to talk and listen
Simply stands an option no more!
